Police bust drug smuggling gang, arrest 4 Indian nationals

JHAPA, Dec 14: Kakarbhitta Police have busted a gang allegedly involved in a cross-border drug trafficking on Wednesday. 

Four members of an Indian group, who were involved in the trafficking drugs to Nepal with a help of a Nepali agent, have landed in the police net. 

In a dramatic style, the law enforcement agency was capable of nabbing the main members of the gang that had been supplying drugs to the major cities in Nepal making the eastern entry point as a transit.

Police also seized a huge cache of drugs being ferried to Kathmandu from their possession.  

Kakarbhitta Police Chief Durga Raj Regmi informed that a joint team of Area Police Office, Kakarbhitta and Narcotics Control Bureau, Kakarbhitta arrested them from the bordering Mechi Bridge. 

The arrestees are Jhoru Rajbanshi, 34, a resident of Kotiya Jot of India, Rabindra Meche, 33, Bimal Ghosh aka Lalu, 30, and Gangi Chaiwo, 32.

Regmi said that police have recovered Lupigesic and 400 ampoules each of Phenergan and Diazepam among others from them. 

Police posed with them as a buyer of drugs and requested the gang to bring the drugs to Kakadbhitta. The gang members then agreed to bring the drugs to Mechi Bridge. Police capitalized on the opportunity and made the arrest.

 “We received a tip-off that drugs are being taken to the Capital City through the checkpoint”, Sub Inspector Kishor Shrestha at Narcotics Control Bureau, Kakarbhitta told Republica Online, “Then, we swung into action and busted the gang.”

Police said that Ghosh is the drugs dealer. One of the gang member broke his leg while fleeing and is receiving treatment under the police scrutiny.
