Two arrested in Mahottari with 210 kg of marijuana

JANAKPURDHAM, Sept 20: Police arrested two individuals in Mahottari with 210 kilograms of marijuana.


On Wednesday, a Mahottari police patrol team made the arrests during a routine inspection near Jaleshwar Municipality-1. The arrested individuals have been identified as 23-year-old Jeevan Tamang from Thakre Rural Municipality-7 in Dhading and 25-year-old Surendra Das from Jaleshwar Municipality-7 in Mahottari.


According to Mahottari Police Spokesperson and DSP Dilip Kumar Giri, the discovery was made when officers conducted a thorough search of a pickup vehicle (Bagmati Province 01-026 Cha 4921). About 210 kg of marijuana was cleverly concealed within 14 bags inside the vehicle.

DSP Giri revealed that the contraband was hidden beneath a carton of mineral water bottles to deceive law enforcement. "To deceive the police, the pickup vehicle was covered with cartons of mineral water. At a glance, it appeared as though it was carrying a load of water. However, upon noticing the suspicious behavior of the pickup driver and co-driver, the water cartons were removed, revealing the significant quantity of marijuana," explained DSP Giri.


The police have initiated further investigations into the matter.
