KATHMANDU, Nov 24: Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur recently arrested two agents while trying to settle a rape case that took place last week in Imadol of Lalitpur district.

The police have been investigating the case in which three imposters in guise of police whisked away a girl in a motorbike and raped her at around midnight. One of the alleged rapists is still at large while the other two were arrested soon after the incident. 

Earlier this week, the two agents unexpectedly showed up at the police station with a proposal to settle the rape charge. They tried to assure the police of bringing the absconding youth to settle the case, claiming that they were in touch with both the victim and the perpetrator.

The middlemen identified as Chegu Lama and Roshan Bhandari were charged under the Public Offence Act on Thursday. 

“The two were bargaining for cash with the suspect's family claiming that the victim girl was ready to compromise after receiving some cash as relief,” said SSP Pitambar Adhikari, chief of the Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur. 

The victim girl in her late teens was a staff of a dance restaurant in Gwarko of Lalitpur and originally from Okhaldhunga district. After her landlord did not open the gate of her rented room in Sundhara of Lalitpur at around midnight, the girl decided to take shelter at one of her male companion's residence in Imadol.

As the two were walking toward their destination, a motorcycle carrying three youths stopped nearby them at Krishna Mandir Chowk and inquired as if they were police in plain clothes. They manhandled the girl's companion and carried her away in the bike, according to DSP Rameshwar Yadav, chief of Metropolitan Police Circle, Satdobato. 
The alleged rapists were arrested few hours after the incident following complaint registered by the victim's friend.

“We started searching for the girl as soon as we were reported about the kidnapping. We were able to find the girl with the suspects around 2:30 am. But one of the suspects was able to escape from us,” DSP Yadav said. Police said the girl was found in a compromising situation while they rescued her from near Rata Makai Chowk. 
The two arrested in charge of allegedly raping the girl have been identified as Prabesh Thapa and Nirmal Thapa of Imadol while the absconding youth has been identified as Sushil Aryal of Kaski district.

The police are yet to receive the medical examination report of the girl. Police assured that the absconding youth will soon be arrested. 

Restaurant entrepreneurs have complained of inadequate security for those working till late night in the Valley.
