RAUTAHAT, Oct 8: The chairman of Free Madhes Alliance, CK Raut, who has courted controversy for his secessionist remarks, has been arrested from Gaur of Rautahat district on Sunday afternoon.
Raut was arrested by the police after he appeared at the district court on a general date. A police team led by DSP Mahendra Prasad Marasini took Raut under control after he was returning from the court. Police are interrogating Raut following the detention.
Secessionist CK Raut produced before court
According to District Police Office (DPO), Rautahat, they arrested Raut for his anti-national remarks. Police also arrested Sanjaya Swaraji and Rameshwar Prasad Yadav of Garuda-5 along with Raut.
Supporters of the secessionist leader had chanted slogans in favor of Raut and against the nation. The chants continued throughout his stay at the court.
Likewise, his supporters led by the alliance's coordinator Ashok Singh picketed the DPO after around two hours of Raut's arrest. They refused to budge even after police attempted to disperse the protestors.
A minor clash ensued in the aftermath. Protestors pelted stones at the police alleging that the security personnel charged them with batons. Police initially arrested three of them, including coordinator Singh, Diperndra Jha and central member Birendra Sah.
Five more protestors were arrested after the clash but their identities are yet to be ascertained. DSP Marasini said they are preparing to file a case against the arrested persons on treason charge at the court.
