KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Nepal Police have arrested as many as 5,846 absconding defendants from across the country in the last five months of the current fiscal year 2024/25.
Bishwa Adhikari, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and spokesperson for Nepal Police, said that during the implementation of court orders, various defendants involved in criminal activities who were on the run have been arrested. According to him, a campaign has been operated to arrest the absconding defendants in the current fiscal year.

SSP Adhikari said that the highest number of arrested individuals from Mid-July to mid-December was from Madhesh Province, with a total of 1,594 fugitive defendants arrested in the province. Additionally, 1,253 defendants were arrested from the Kathmandu Valley.
SSP Adhikari said that 735 absconding defendants were arrested from Koshi, 265 from Bagmati, 506 from Gandaki, 1,035 from Lumbini, 169 from Karnali, and 235 from Sudurpaschim Province. Following the arrest, these defendants were presented to the court.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested 54 individuals, who have been fined Rs 435.42 million. These individuals have yet to serve the total imprisonment of 1,968 years, 9 months and 8 days.
The police have been mobilizing a special team to arrest the absconding accused. SSP Adhikari said that the defendants were arrested and presented to courts, and as per the courts’ orders, fines were imposed on them, and they were sent to prison.
