KATHMANDU, Feb 5: Police have arrested President of Nepal Students Union (NSU) Nainsingh Mahar, Vice President Nabin Rai and four others from the capital, on Tuesday.

The student leaders were arrested when they were heading towards District Administration Office Kathmandu, Babarmahal to stage a sit-in demanding the release of NSU cadres detained last week for their alleged involved in torching the government vehicle in Pokhara.

NSU General Secretary Kundan Raj Kafle told Republica Online that the arrested student leaders have been kept at Mahendra Police Club in the capital.

NSU, the student wing of the main opposition Nepali Congress, has been staging protests against the government for the past one week.

The Nepali Congress and its sister wings have been staging protest against the government’s ‘authoritarian’ move of forcibly getting the National Medical Education Bill approved from the House as well as its failure to maintain law and order and curb corruption in the country.
