Police arrest a man on charge of defrauding people in the name of securing US visa

KATHMANDU, Jan 20: Police have arrested a man who conned a person to send to the United States of America, claiming that he was the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

KATHMANDU, Jan 20: Police have arrested a man who conned a person to send to the United States of America, claiming that he was the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).


A team of police personnel from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) arrested Tulsi Thapa, 60, a resident of Pachkhapan Rural Municipality-5 in Sankhuwasabha district, on the charge of defrauding a person. He allegedly received Rs 1.5 million from the victim to help him secure a multiple visa of five years to the United States.

Police nabbed Thapa from Durbarmarg in Kathmandu on Tuesday.


A preliminary police investigation found that Thapa might have conned several others giving them false assurance to send them to the US. “If anyone is conned by Thapa, we [police] request them to contact the Crime Division,” said police.


Thapa allegedly claimed to the victims that he was going to the US for an event. “Thapa conned the victims claiming he would take them to the US for the same event,” said police.
