RAJBIRAJ, Feb 10: Cadres of agitating Madhes-based parties attempted to disrupt the second national convention of Nepal Revolutionary Peasants Association (NRPA), the sister wing of the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) in Rajbiraj, Saptari.

While the NRPA was inaugurating its convention on the local Shiva Mandir premises, the cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) reached the venue and chanting slogans against the NWPP.

The UDMF cadres argued that they protested against the NWPP since the party is positioning itself against federalism and Madhes issues.

Police held 50 UDMF cadres, preempting possible clashes. Following the police intervention, the general convention began with NWPP leader Sunil Prajapati as chief guest.

Earlier, it was said that the convention would be inaugurated by NWPP Chairman Narayan Man Bijukchhe.
