Pokhara reports 79 dengue cases in two weeks

POKHARA, Aug 18: The tourist city of Pokhara has also come under the grip of dengue. In just two weeks, Pokhara has recorded 79 dengue cases. The disease which has already infected over 3,200 people in Sunsari district over the past three months was detected in Pokhara on August 1. 

According to Yam Baral, Vector Control Inspector at District Health Office of Kaski, four among the infected people are in critical condition at the hopsital. 

“Dengue is spreading fast in Pokhara, this is a worrying sign,” he said. “This has spread from the same place from where it spread last year,” he added. 

Last year dengue in Pokhara was said to have spread from Shivalaya Crossroad. Garbage and pools of water around the hotels are where the mosquito thrives, said Baral. 

Baral stated that the authority has launched cleanliness drive in the city. The focus in on Shivalaya Crossroad. “However, we have not been able to kill the mosquito that spreads dengue,” he said. 
Last year, 571 people had been infected by dengue in Pokhara. This year, over 4,000 people have already been infected by the dengue virus across the country.
