Pokhara gets its first acting and directing school

National Art School has been established in Pokhara to further the region’s art and literature. Director Krishna Udashi has founded the school as he believes there are not enough institutions nation-wide for students to learn the basics of acting and theater. The National Art School came to existence on Thursday.

The school is established with a motto “Art is for art’s sake, art for life”. According to Udashi, the school will provide a three-month course in acting and one-month course in productions. “We also have the provision to teach yoga, music, martial arts and dancing, all of which refines an actor,” he said. He further added, “The school hopes to develop actor and director who could compete in national and international competitions.”

Parichya Lamichhane has been appointed as Principal of the Arts School. And Sarita Giri, Krishna Udashi and Bikash Joshi as head of the arts department. Then Dipak Godare for the martial arts, Ghanshyam Pun for the dance department and Komalananda heads the yoga department.

The school hopes to train at least 60 people annually. Udashi said, “The three-month course will have 20 students only and will cost Rs 6,000 per month each”. The school will also audition students before taking them in, Udashi added.

Udashi further mentioned how students there could make a leap across international and national movie industries through this institution. Claiming the institution to be first-of-its-kind in Pokhara, Udashi added that the courses would be guided by professionals of Nepali entertainment industry, and is one of the well-equipped art schools in the country.
