KATHMANDU, March 3: Nepal has got a target of 180 runs for victory against Papua New Guinea (PNG) in its third match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup League Two series in the UAE.
After winning the toss at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, PNG batted first and scored 179 in 49.2 overs.
Opener Tony Ura scored 39 runs for PNG. Hiri Hiri scored 31 and Kiplin Doriga added 26 runs.
Nepal beats PNG by 52 runs
For the first wicket, Tony Ura and Doriga shared 42 runs in 10.3 overs. But Sandeep Lamichhane broke the partnership by hitting Doriga LBW and gave Nepal its first success. After that, PNG could not make a big contribution, while Nepal kept taking wickets at regular intervals.
Tony Ura was dismissed in the 22nd over by Sompal Kami taking an excellent catch on his own.
Hiri Hiri and Gaudi Toka tried to handle PNG's innings which was at 91-4. The pair shared 32 runs for the fifth wicket after playing 13 overs. Dipendra Singh Airee bowled Gaudi Toka and gave Nepal its fifth success. Toka added 15 runs. In the 42nd over, Karan KC and Airee ran out Chad Soper. Airee dismissed Hiri Hiri in the 44th over.
Sompal Kami bowled Riley Hekure in the 47th over. Karan bowled Norman Vanua for 14 runs in the 49th over.
Dipendra Singh Airee and Sompal Kami took 2 wickets each for Nepal. While bowling 10 overs, Aerie bowled 1 maiden over and gave 30 runs while Sompal spent 39 runs.
Sandeep Lamichhane took 1 wicket for 32 runs keeping 1 maiden in 9.2 overs. Kushal Malla took 1 wicket in 10 overs and spent 36 runs with 1 maiden.
Karan KC bowled economically and took 1 wicket for 32 runs while bowling two maiden overs in 8 overs. Captain Rohit Paudel and Aarif Sheikh, who bowled the same over, cost 1 and 6 runs respectively. Only Paudel and Sheikh did not take wickets. Three PNG players were run out.
