KATHMANDU, March 9: Alleging that the splinter faction of the erstwhile CPN (Maoist) was involved in robbing and looting people, Prime Minister KP Oli on Friday warned the Communist Party Nepal led by Netra Bikram Chanda to shun violence or face the consequences.

Addressing a function organized to publicize the 11-point agreement reached between the government and the Alliance for Independent Madhes-led by CK Raut, Prime Minister Oli also cautioned the Chand-led Maoist splinter group to stop extorting and looting people under the garb of communist party. Prime Minister Oli said that such activities on the part of the Chand-led group had defamed the entire communist movement.

“The name of our party is Nepal Communist Party. And the name is shared also by the group involved in robbing and looting people...If you want to make robbery your livelihood, then stop misusing the name of communist party,” he said.

Prime Minister Oli also said that government will take necessary security measures to curb Chand’s unruly activities. “It is the basic responsibility of the government. I want to make it loud and clear that the government will do all to maintain law and order,” said the prime minister.

The warning by Prime Minister Oli comes in the wake of the Ministry of Home Affairs stepping up arrest of cadres and leaders of Chand’s party across the country after a person was killed and two others were injured in a bomb blast carried out by the group in Lalitpur last month.
