JHAPA, Feb 25: The foundation stone is being laid for the development of China-Nepal Friendship Industrial Park, the largest industrial estate in Nepal, in Jhapa on Sunday. The estate lies some eight kilometers south of Damak city.
Park Chairperson Govinda Thapa informed at a press meet on Wednesday that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the estate. The estate being set up at the border of Damak Municipality-10, Kamal Rural Municipality-7 and Gauradaha Municipality-5 will cover 1,300 bighas of land. The Nepal government has acquired land for it.

The government has already granted permission to bring in some Rs 65 billion Chinese investment for the park construction. Thapa further informed that the construction of the park would be completed in two years. For the acquisition of land, the locals have been provided the compensation of Rs 1.36 billion so far. The land has been taken in lease by the government for forty years.
It is believed that 45,000 Nepalis will be employed directly after the construction of the industrial park where there will be factories related to agriculture, textile, and electronic goods. The products will be exported.
