KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Leader of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (Dahal-Nepal faction), Yogesh Bhattarai, on Tuesday accused Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of treading the path of former King Gyanendra Shah.
Bhattarai, who resigned from the post of tourism minister in protest of PM KP Sharma Oli's decision to dissolve the House of Representatives two weeks ago, said that the prime minister is pushing the country back toward regression.
"It's being heard that some people close to Prime Minister Oli are ill-advising him to scrap federalism arguing that the move will make the prime minister popular. That means Oli is treading the path of former king Gyanendra," Bhattarai claimed.
Why is former King Gyanendra visiting Bhutan?
He said that Prime Minister Oli is now spearheading those sections of people who are in favor of counter-revolution and regression.
"We are against the dissolution of parliament and in favor of federalism, republicanism and constitutionalism. We are progressive," Bhattarai said. He claimed that Prime Minister Oli will now target the media, civil society and intelligentsia.
"Now, we have to launch a joint struggle with the involvement of the Nepali Congress and Janata Samajbadi Party to save the constitution and the country," he said.
