PM Oli holds discussion with chief minister and ministers of Lumbini Province

KATHMANDU, Aug 11: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has requested the Lumbini provincial government to focus on increasing production and employment opportunities along with infrastructure development.

In a discussion with the chief minister of the province, Chet Narayan Acharya, at the Prime Minister's residence, Baluwatar, today, Prime Minister Oli suggested expanding the market by industrializing agriculture by planting advanced varieties of crops on suitable soil.

"Now the overall economy is going down. There is no immediate increase in production by spending on buildings, offices, and other structures. We have fertile land, water and climate. “There are many grounds for increasing production and employment through hard work,” said Prime Minister Oli. “Our political party organizations and workers should also engage in such efforts.” “They must establish a relationship with the people that are as close as flesh and blood. We should not get bogged down with minor issues like who gets appointed. Most importantly, we should focus on how to solve the existing problems of the country,” he said.

He emphasized the need to prevent the export and import of contaminated and pesticide-laden food products and vegetables, urging that arrangements be made to provide healthy food to the public. Mentioning the current political equation and the special circumstances of the country, he questioned who would build the nation if the UML and Nepali Congress cannot succeed even if they come together.

Prime Minister Oli urged that while running the government, focus should be on consensus, cooperation, and delivering results for the people, rather than getting caught up in disputes over who takes how much share in the government.

Chief Minister Acharya had expected the central government’s support in managing the budget for relocating the provincial capital from Rupandehi to Dang and for overall infrastructure development.

The discussion was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, as well as CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel, among others.
