KATHMANDU, May 12: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba have extended their best wishes to nurses on the occasion of the International Nurses Day.
"I extend best wishes to the nurses who are providing service on the frontline in the battle against COVID-19 pandemic," Oli tweeted today morning.
Issuing a press release, Congress President Deuba said that he deeply respects the high confidence of all workers. "On my own behalf and my party Nepali Congress, I extend best wishes to all those involved in the nursing profession for their happiness, peace, prosperity and good progress," Deuba said.
The NC president said that the role of nurses is crucial in the health sector as the entire world is undergoing difficult times due to the coronavirus pandemic. "Keeping themselves away from their family members, the nurses are working on the frontline with high confidence and the feeling of humanity to treat the coronavirus infected patients making the optimum utilization of the limited resources," Deuba said.
He also drew the attention of the government to arrange necessary equipment for the nurses who are working on the frontline.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal also issued a separate press statement on the occasion of International Nurses Day.
"I would like to express gratitude to the nurses for their tireless works at this hour of pandemic," he said.
The International Council of Nurses has set "Nursing the world to health" as the theme of this year's International Nurses Day, illustrating how nurses can overcome a wide range of health issues amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The day marks the birth (May 12, 1820) of Florence Nightingale in respect to her founding role in modern nursing. The day is observed to inspire nurses and makes the public aware of their contribution in healthcare and health management.
International Nurses Day also provides information and resources that will help to raise the profile of the profession, so that the new generation can also know more about this noble profession. The day marks the contributions that nurses make to society and why it is important to appreciate their efforts.
