PM leaves for Egypt

KATHMANDU, July 14: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal left for Egypt on Tuesday to participate in the 15th summit meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) being held at Red Sea at Sharm El-Sheikh. The prime minister is accompanied by his political advisor Raghuji Panta, foreign affairs advisor Rajan Bhattarai and chief secretary Bhoj Raj Ghimire among others. Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala and foreign ministry officials have already reached Egypt.



The prime minsiter is also scheduled to hold a number of meetings with the heads of the neighboring countries and other NAM delegations on the sidelines of the summit. "It has been confirmed that the prime minister will hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during the summit," the prime minister´s press advisor, Bishnu Rijal, said. However, the prime minister´s desire to meet the Chinese premier will remain unfulfilled as the latter has canceled his visit.



It is the first international sojourn of PM Nepal after being elected as the prime minister of the country.



PM Nepal will address the inaugural session of the summit on Wednesday.



The prime minister is scheduled to return home on July 18.
