BUTWAL, Jan 12: Defending the dissolution of the 275-member House of Representatives (HoR) by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, one of his close aids Shankar Pokharel has said that the dark clouds in the Nepali political sky would clear after the elections announced for April and May this year.

Pokharel, who is also the chief minister (CM) of Lumbini Province, said that the current situation which was invited by “some power mongers” in the party would end once the general elections are held. “The prime minister did not have any option to dissolving parliament at that difficult time.”

“The tendency of winning election by projecting a certain person as the PM and fighting desperately to take charge of the prime ministerial post after victory has invited the current state of affairs,” said CM Pokharel, referring to Pushpa Kamal Dahal, one of two chairmen of the ruling Nepal Communist Party before the split. According to him, elections will settle “these sorts of disputes”.

He reiterated that a fresh mandate would reveal the real strength of all political parties and their leaders. “The post-election era will ensure political culture and good governance,” he said.
