KATHMANDU, Feb 1: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is scheduled to meet Election Commission (EC) officials on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the local elections. EC officials have been called to Baluwatar on Tuesday at 3PM.
A meeting of the ruling coalition held on Saturday decided to hold the local elections by mid-June and set a date for the polls after holding discussions between the government and the Election Commission. After the decision, Prime Minister Deuba is now holding discussions with the officials of the commission for the first time.
Various EC officials including Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya will be attending the discussion at Baluwatar on Tuesday. The EC has been stating that the election should be held before the end of the term of the local level people's representatives on May 19 as per the Local Level Election Act 2017.
