KATHMANDU, August 3: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has directed Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Pampha Bhusal, to appoint former managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Kul Man Ghishing, to the post again.
According to Prime Minister Deuba's press aide Gobinda Pariyar, the prime minister on Tuesday directed Minister Bhusal to appoint Ghishing to the post as he had demonstrated excellent performance in his previous tenure. Despite mounting public pressure, the then KP Sharma Oli-led government had decided not to give Ghising a second term as the chief of the state-owned power utility.

Various youth groups had staged a demonstration across the country demanding the reappointment of Ghising in the post. Hashtag’ Reappoint Kulman Ghishing’ was also trending in social media during that time.
Ghising, whose four-year term as NEA’s managing director ended on September 14, 2020, has been credited for ending the chronic problem of power outage, commonly known as ‘load-shedding’, once and for all in Nepal. He also transformed the once-bankrupt NEA into a profit-making public utility within his four years in office as the chief executive of NEA.
