KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal clarified that the Indian Embassy in Nepal cannot spend up to Rs 200 million freely without adhering to a proper process. He emphasized that the allocated amount should be spent following the prescribed procedures.

He stated, "India does not have the liberty to invest or spend wherever it wishes without following a specific process. There are set procedures for such actions. The expenditure can only occur through the designated process, whether within the municipality or elsewhere."
This statement comes after the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu signed an agreement during the visit of Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday. The agreement allows the Indian government to provide direct grants to projects in Nepal, with a limit of up to Rs 200 million. Jhala Nath Khanal, former Prime Minister and leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist) party, criticized the agreement, labeling it as anti-national.
