PM Bhattarai leaves for New York

KATHMANDU, Sept 19: Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai left for New York Sunday evening leading a 13-member Nepalese delegation to the 66th regular session of the UN General Assembly. Bhattarai is accompanied by his wife Hisila Yami.



The delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha and senior officials of the government. [break]



According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN Gyan Chandra Acharya and other officials of the Permanent Mission will join the delegation in New York.



Prime Minister Bhattarai is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on September 24. Bhattarai is also set to hold bilateral meetings with the heads of state or government from various countries on the sidelines of the General Assembly.



The prime minister will also meet Secretary General of the UN Ban Ki-moon separately.



Prime Minister Bhattarai is also scheduled to attend the reception to be hosted by American President Barack Obama and the first lady in honor of the heads of the states or government attending the UN General Assembly. Prime Minister Bhattarai will arrive in Nepal on September 26.



Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Shrestha will participate in various meetings with his counterparts including those from G-77 and the Land-Locked Developing Countries.



He will also chair the annual ministerial meeting of the Least Developed countries on September 26. Shrestha will arrive in Kathmandu on September 28.
