MAHENDRANAGAR, Oct 22: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has announced that the government will come up with relief packages for the survivors of landslides and floods.

Addressing a program after the inspection of an area eroded by the Mahakali River at Bhimdutta Municipality-12 in Kanchanpur district today, the Prime Minister said, “Data of losses caused by the off-seasonal floods and landslides will be gathered and the government will come up with relief packages for the survivors of landslides and floods.

“The floods and landslides have caused huge losses in the districts of the Far Western region,” he said, promising to provide relief to the survivors despite limited resources.

Stating that the Council of Ministers a few days ago decided to provide the survivors with relief programs, the head of the government said the flood had its implications on several parts of the country including in eastern Nepal.

As the Prime Minister said, the areas near the banks of the Mahakali and Dodhara-Chandani in Kanchanpur district have faced land erosion since the past and this time the paddy crop here was largely damaged by the flood. The District Security Committee briefed the Prime Minister on the flood-caused losses and the post-disaster situation here.

The Prime Minister arrived here on Thursday to take stock of the damage caused by the natural disasters in Far Western Nepal. He visited Doti, Bajhang, Baitadi, and Dadeldhura districts yesterday. He is scheduled to inspect the flood-hit areas in Kailali today.
