Plane crash: Postmortem of bodies begins

KATHMANDU, Jan 16: The post-mortem of the people who died in the plane crash of Yeti Airlines in Seti Gorge in Pokhara on Sunday has started.

According to the District Administration Office, Kaski, two members of the expert team formed for body identification and examination have arrived in Pokhara from Kathmandu.

Assistant Chief District Officer of Kaski, Gurudatta Dhakal informed Republoica that preparations are being made to hand over the bodies to the concerned family after completion of post-mortem procedures. The expert team formed for the post-mortem includes two expert doctors from Kathmandu and a doctor from Pokhara.

The bodies of 68 people who died in the accident have been kept at the Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences (Gandaki Hospital). According to the hospital, it takes half to one-and-a-half hours to carry out a post-mortem on a body.

After the post-mortem, the bodies of people from Pokhara and surrounding areas will be handed over to their relatives, while the bodies of foreign nationals, crew members and unidentified bodies will be sent to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu.

The relatives of the deceased have gathered on the hospital premises to see the bodies. Four passengers in the accident are still missing. According to the District Administration Office, Kaski, the search for the missing passengers is on.
