KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Staffers at Nepal’s premier health institution, Bir Hospital, have continued their protest for the fifth consecutive day on Thursday demanding the fulfilment of promises made earlier to provide them with incentives and proper safety equipment during the work.

Converted into a COVID-19 hospital, staffers at the hospital have long been complaining that there were insufficient safety gears to perform their duty in the face of the growing risks of COVID-19.

"I work for more than 12 hours a day taking care of COVID-19 patients. But I have to work under unfavorable conditions with inadequate protective equipment. If the front liners can't get proper equipment, how are we supposed to work?," questioned one of the agitating staffers.

Multiple rounds of talks and meetings with the management over the past few days have failed to take them to the consensus. Among other things, the protesting staff have also demanded the resignation of officials of the hospital administration.
