KATHMANDU, May 12: Despite the lockdown orders of the government, the major cities of Sarlahi are still open and people are found defying lockdown orders everywhere.
The vegetable markets are among the most crowded places with high risk of virus transmission. The markets open from 6 am to 8:30 am to supply essentials to locals.
The locals visiting the markets are not adopting safety measures against the virus in an appropriate way. Large gatherings in marketplaces is a usual scenario. People are roaming around the streets and markets without wearing protective masks. Neither the buyers nor the sellers are using sanitizers and other safety measures while carrying out the transactions.
The local government seems unaware of the movement of large numbers of people defying the lockdown.
To date, Sarlahi has reported one positive case of COVID-19 with 72 positive cases in Province 2.
The number of cases in the neighbouring districts are rising daily. Parsa alone reported 39 positive cases on Tuesday.
As of today, Nepal has 191 cases of COVID-19.
