KATHMANDU, Nov 21: The meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee under the Federal Parliament scheduled for today to conduct a parliamentary hearing of the proposed ambassadors to India, China, and Britain has been postponed due to the lack of quorum.

The 15-member committee presently has 12 members and only five members were present in the meeting today.

The committee’s president, Laxman Lal Karna said the meeting had to be postponed due to the lack of quorum.

He said that the required number of the committee members could not be present in the meeting as the members from the Nepali Congress are busy in the party's convention in different levels and those from the main opposition party, CPN (UML), are also engaged in connection with its upcoming General Congress.

Karna informed Republica that the next meeting of the committee has been set for December 3.

The government some time back had recommended Dr Shanker Sharma as the ambassador to India, Prof Shreedhar Khatri as the ambassador of the United States of America and Gyan Chandra Acharya for the United Kingdom.

The committee had received a proposal for the parliamentary hearing on October 25. The law requires that a parliamentary hearing be conducted within 45 days of the registration of the proposal to this connection.
