KATHMANDU, September 15: The parliament’s Good Governance Committee has directed the Ministry of Supplies not to assign any responsibility for Executive Director of Nepal Oil Gopal Khadka, who has been accused of embezzling around Rs 1.5 billion while buying plots of land to set up fuel storage facilities in various districts.

The committee directed the ministry not to assign any responsibility on the ground that various other parliamentary committees had already found huge irregularities in the process of buying the land for the purpose of building NOC’s fuel storage facilities.

Murari Mahat, the secretary of the Good Governance Committee of the legislature, said that the committee has asked the ministry not to assign any responsibility for Khadka until the investigations on the issues are concluded.

The parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Industry, Commerce and Consumer Rights Protection Committee have concluded that there have been huge irregularities while buying land plots in Chitwan, Bhairahawa, Jhapa and Sarlahi and they have recommended the government to take necessary action over the matter. Also, the Ministry of Supplies in its preliminary investigation has found some irregularities and recommended the Office of the Prime Minister to take some action in this connection.

Supplies Minister Shiva Kumar Mandal had earlier this week said that they have found some mistakes in the process and the next cabinet meeting will take a decision in this connection.
