KATHMANDU, March 23: A parliamentary committee has directed the government to retrofit and repair the old parliament building located at Singha Durbar.
On Thursday, a meeting of the Delegated Management and Government Assurance Committee under the National Assembly directed the government to retrofit and repair the old parliament building at Singha Durbar.

The parliament building, which was built in 2016 BS, was damaged due to the 2015 earthquake. Maya Prasad Sharma, chairperson of the committee, said that the committee has directed the Ministry of Urban Development and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation to retrofit and repair the building instead of rebuilding it.
"We found that the old parliament building inside the Singha Durbar, built in 2016 BS, has suffered some damage due to the earthquake. We have been discussing with everyone whether to rebuild it or to preserve the building by retrofitting it again” he said, “This committee has called the secretaries of the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and given them this instruction.”
The members of the National Assembly present at the meeting emphasized that the buildings of the Federal Parliament including the library should be completed on time and with quality.
