KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Laxman Pandey, an employee of the Transport Office, has successfully evaded the police.
In the case of the fake driving license scam, Laxman Pandey, a fugitive, managed to evade the police when they attempted to detain him on Tuesday in Butwal. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police tried to capture him but he successfully escaped their grasp. “When we attempted to detain him yesterday, he did not leave the premises of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) office in Butwal,” said a member of the CIB team.
Driving license for a hundred thousand rupees, that too fake!
After the 'forgery' case was filed in the fake license issue, Laxman Pandey remains at large. Pandey, a former computer operator at the Transport Office in Butwal, was part of a gang involved in producing fake licenses.
The CIAA filed a case against Pandey for his role in creating fake licenses. The case was lodged at the District Court Kathmandu over two months ago. The police had been monitoring him after receiving information that he had traveled to Lucknow, India. Once it was discovered that he had returned to Nepal, the CIAA team went to arrest him.
The CIAA indictment reveals that Pandey of Birgha, Syangja, while working as a contract computer operator at the Transport Office in Butwal, played a significant role in creating fake driving licenses.
Pandey went into hiding after key figures from the Butwal Transport Office, including the then office chief Keshab Aryal, Padamraj Acharya, Gyanraj Pandey, and Narayan Prasad Pandey, were arrested. Aryal and Acharya, among others, were sent to custody by the Kathmandu District Court for further proceedings, leading to Pandey's escape.
