PANCHTHAR, Sept 29: Many villages of Panchthar are reeling under a shortage of essentials, thanks to the disruption of various road sections due to landslides.
Various road stretches have been obstructed after being hit by rain-triggered landslips at multiple locations, hindering the supplies of essentials, local traders said.
The situation is further aggravated as the festivals like Dashain, Tihar and Chhath are approaching.
Local traders said they transport foodstuffs from various cities of Jhapa district, but the road obstruction has made the matter worse.
"As a result of the road disruption, it will take at least a week to transport essentials to the district via road routes," they added.
Bhojpur folks facing shortage of essentials
"Vehicular movements along the Rake-Rabi stretch have remained halted since around four months ago. We are forced to use another route which requires at least a week to supply essentials to the district," said local trader Santosh Sherma of Saptami Bazaar.
Those VDCs facing a shortage of foodstuffs include Memeng, Prangbung, Sarangdanda, Kurumba, Limba and Durdambi.
Essentials like rice, beaten rice, edible oil, sugar and pulse are in short supply, said trader Mitra Sapkota of Memeng-4. RSS
