Pakistan reiterates support for Nepal

KATHMANDU, May 5: Pakistan, one of the first countries to offer assistance to Nepal after the devastating earthquake on April 25, has assured of continued support to the country. Speaking at a press meet held in Islamabad yesterday, Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, Mr Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, assured that Pakistan would continue to extend every possible assistance to Nepal in this hour of need.

Since April 26, Pakistan's C-130s has been regularly flying to Nepal with relief assistance including medicines, tents, rice, lentils, MREs, blankets, among others. So far, six C-130 plane-load of relief assistance has reached Nepal from Pakistan, he added.


Aizaz Ahmad further said that the prime minister of Pakistan has established an exclusive Relief Fund for Nepal, with Pakistanis at home and abroad being mobilized to contribute generously to the fund.

A statement issued here by Pakistan Embassy informed that a 30-bed field hospital was immediately established by Pakistan in Bhaktapur, where around 1000 injured persons have so far been treated. Surgeons from Pakistan have performed 17 surgeries at Pakistan's field hospital where two babies were born as well.
