KATHMANDU, Oct 30: Pakistan Embassy in Kathmandu on Thursday organized a virtual talk program on “Right to Self Determination & Consequences of Illegal Occupation” to commemorate the Kashmir Black Day.

Analysts, scholars and eminent journalists participated in an hour long program.

Charge d’Affaires at the embassy, Adnan Javed Khan, recounted the historical perspective of the dispute and the Kashmiris’ struggle for their right of self-determination which had been promised to them under several UN Security Council resolutions.

Khan highlighted the human rights violations taking place in Indian Occupied Kashmir after Indian Government’s illegal decision to revoke Article 370 on August 5, 2019.

The decision violated the UN resolutions, Khan observed. The people of Jammu Kashmir have been subjected to inhuman curfew, thousands of arbitrary detentions mostly of teenagers, night raids, rape, torture and clampdown on internet and cell phone.

Speaking at the event, participants expressed serious concerns on the media / information blockade, use of pellet guns, arrest of Kashmiri leadership and other inhuman actions of Indian government which have been well documented in UN High Commissioner on Human Rights reports, according to a press release issued by the embassy.

Miscellaneous reporting of Amnesty International and other international human right organizations were also taken into account and India’s repressive measures in the disputed territory were criticized, according to the press release.

Unresolved status of Jammu and Kashmir dispute has posed the biggest challenge to peace in South Asia, ever since the two countries came into being in 1947 and the UN Security Council passed several resolutions for resolving the dispute in accordance with the wishes of the people of Jammu Kashmir, the embassy said
