KABUL, June 10:  Pakistani Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa arrived in Afghanistan’s Kabul on Tuesday.

According to details, the army chief met Afghan president Ashraf Ghani and discussed ways to improve bilateral relations. They also deliberated on matters related to border management. President Ghani appreciated Imran Khan for opening Torkham and Chaman border, and for allowing Afghan transit goods. He also thanked Pakistan for facilitating stranded Afghan nationals  returning to Afghanistan by land and air routes. The President was appreciative of the role being played by Pakistan in the Afghan Peace Process

Afterwards, the COAS met with Abdullah Abdullah, leader of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) and discussed current developments in Afghan Peace Process as well as necessary steps to facilitate an Afghan led and owned peace process. Both sides agreed that a dignified and time-bound return of Afghan Refugees from Pakistan is key towards normalcy

According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa arrived in Afghanistan on a one-day visit and was accompanied by Director General (DG) ISI Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed and the newly appointed Special Representative to PM for Afghanistan affairs Mohammad Sadiq.

Earlier on Sunday, the US peace envoy for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad called on General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, overall regional security situation including Afghan refugees issue / Afghan Reconciliation Process and Pakistan - Afghanistan border management were discussed.

Both shared steps taken in this regard and agreed to continue working towards mutually agreed goals.
