PAC chair’s wife should appear before court: MP Bhattarai

Member of Parliament (MP) Yogesh Bhattarai, who is also the secretary of CPN (UML), has said that Anjala Koirala, the wife of chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Rishikesh Pokharel, should appear before the court.

KATHMANDU, Dec 23: Member of Parliament (MP) Yogesh Bhattarai, who is also the secretary of CPN (UML), has said that Anjala Koirala, the wife of chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Rishikesh Pokharel, should appear before the court.


Speaking at the committee meeting held today, MP Bhattarai said, “There are reports that PAC Chair’s wife is absconding. It would be appropriate for her to appear in court.”

Bhattarai stated that the Audit Committee was also established for ensuring good governance along with check and balance, and therefore, it should be transparent financially. “I understand this is not the forum to provide clarification, but please do illuminate on this matter,” he added.


Koirala is involved in the cooperative fraud case of Umagouri Agricultural Cooperative Society Limited in Morang.  However, she is currently absconding.  On December 17, the Morang District Court issued an arrest warrant against 25 people including Koirala on the charge of embezzlement of funds of Umagouri Cooperative.
