Over a thousand houses inundated in Sunsari, one swept away

SUNSARI, July 26: Around 1,700 houses are inundated in different parts of Sunsari, following the torrential rains for the past few days.

Eleven VDCs, three municipalities and one sub-metropolis have been affected the most by a continuous downpour.

Over 70 houses of wards no. 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 of the Narsigh VDC are flooded, the District Police Office Sunsari said.

Similarly, 54 houses at Sahebgunj VDC, 25 at Chhitaha and nine at Ghuski-4 have been inundated by rain water. 

Water flow in the Saptakoshi River was measured 243,774 cusecs at 8:00 am this morning. Thirty –one out of 56 gates of the Koshi Barrage have been opened, following an increased waters level. 

Meanwhile, the swollen Dudh Khola (stream) in Barahachhetra-1 Sunsari swept away Sushil Karki, 17, of Aaitabare of Itahari Sub Metropolis-1.

Police are searching for her. However, Gyanendra Parajuli of Manebhanjyang-5 of Bhojpur who was washed away by the river along with Karki was rescued alive by the police with the help of locals. RSS
