KATHMANDU, Dec 31: More than 1.14 million tourists visited Nepal in 2024, according to data from the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). Over 1.147 million tourists entered the country as of today (Tuesday) morning.
According to NTB Director Mani Raj Lamichhane, on average, 3,000 tourists visited Nepal daily, marking an increase of over 14 percent compared to 2023. In 2019, 1.197 million foreign tourists visited Nepal. This is the first year in which tourist numbers have exceeded pre-pandemic levels since COVID-19, as arrivals were almost halted from 2020 to 2022.
Over 700,000 tourists visit Nepal in eight months
The latest six-month data from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) shows that Nepal's tourism sector has recovered by 96 percent since the pandemic.
Events such as the Nepal Premier League (NPL), the World Buddhist Conference, the International Balloon Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, and various national and international fairs and exhibitions have also contributed to the rise in tourist arrivals.
