Over 55,000 people estimated to have missed booster dose of Covid-19 vaccine in Taplejung

Taplejung, Feb 15: The District Health Office, Taplejung, has concluded that the number of people taking the booster dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 is very low and that people should be encouraged to take the booster dose.

Dinesh Rai, vaccine supervisor of the health office, said that since the number of booster doses was very low, those who had only received the first and second vaccinations should be encouraged to take the booster dose.

Rai said that the only way to be safe from Covid-19 and to reduce the risk is to get vaccinated; the booster dose of the vaccine reduces the risk. He said that the number of those who took the first and second doses of the vaccine was as expected, but the number of those who missed the booster dose was high.

He added that since the local people's representative is the fastest way to encourage people to get booster dose, the local level should make a special plan to encourage doing so. According to Rai, only within the Phungling municipality area, about 21,000 people have yet to receive booster doses.

He informed Republica that around 55,000 booster doses are yet to be administered across the district. The number of first doses of all types of vaccines across Taplejung is 99,178. A total of 1, 05,856 people have received only the second vaccination. According to the Health Office, only 19,487 people received booster doses.

Rai said that the figures of people who administered first and second doses of vaccine high as those who came here applied the first dose elsewhere and applied the second dose in Taplejung. According to the Health Office, 19,979 people have taken the first dose of Covishield and 11,182 people have taken the second dose. The number of booster doses of Covishield is 7,194.

Similarly, 40,662 people have used the first dose of Verocell and 40,685 people have taken the second dose. 10,998 people took the first dose of Johnson & Johnson and 433 people took the booster dose. While 8677 people used the first dose of AstraZeneca, the second dose was twice as many as 17,666 people. 8,570 people have taken booster doses of AstraZeneca.

21,914 people have taken the first dose of Pfizer vaccine administered by the age group above 12 years, while only 20,371 people have taken the second dose, while only 1,120 people have taken the booster dose of Pfizer vaccine. According to the statistics of the Health Office, 11,239 people took the first dose of Moderna vaccine for the age group of 12 to 18 years while 8,231 people took the second dose.

Only 2,170 people have used Moderna booster dose. 15,228 people have taken the first dose of Pfizer vaccine for the age group of 5 to 11 years and 13,817 people have taken the second dose.
