Over 5,000 poll candidates in Saptari district

RAJBIRAJ, September 8:  More than 5,000 candidates from Saptari district in Province 2 are contesting the local elections being held on September 18. 

According to Janak Koirala, administrative officer of the Saptari District Administration Office, a total of 5,683 candidates filed their candidacy in the district, which has nine municipalities and nine rural municipalities.

A total of 214 candidates are contesting for chiefs of the 18 local bodies while there are 166 candidates for deputy chief positions. A total of 547 candidates including 13 for mayors and nine for deputy mayors are contesting in the Rajbiraj Municipality. Similarly, 125 candidates for ward chairs and 206 for open members are contesting the polls in the municipality.

Likewise, 88 candidates have registered the nominations for Dalit women quota and 106 candidates for women's posts.

Saptakoshi Municipality has the least number of candidates at 270. Similarly, 51 candidates for Dalit women and 46 for women reservation quotas have filed their candidacies.
 
In the rural municipalities, the highest numbers of candidates are in Tilathi Koiladi with 304 candidates.
