Over 18,000 cows from Bagmati Province infected with lumpy skin disease

MANAHARI, May 17: Over 18,000 cows from 13 districts of Bagmati Province are reported to have contracted the lumpy skin disease.

MANAHARI, May 17: Over 18,000 cows from 13 districts of Bagmati Province are reported to have contracted the lumpy skin disease.


As of now, at least 18,324 cows have been infected with the disease according to the data collected in the first phase, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Bagmati Province.

Many cows have succumbed to the disease, said the ministry's Secretary Dr Sharan Kumar Pandey. Makawanpur district has reported the highest death cases from the disease. Out of 4,835 infected cows, 197 have succumbed, he said.


Of 9,634 infection cases in Sindhuli district, 47 cows have died of the disease. Ramechhap has reported 1,965 infection cases, Chitwan 1,060, Kathmandu 83, Lalitpur 40, Kavrepalanchowk 400, Nuwakot 300, Sindhupalchok six and Bhaktapur one.
