Over 1,700 held in Chitwan on various charges in three months

CHITWAN, Aug 31: Chitwan District Police has arrested  1,764 individuals in the district as part of its 3S operation that was conducted to curb crimes and maintain law and order.  

Of the total arrestees, cases have been cased against 453 individuals whereas others were released after interrogation, informed Sushil Singh Rathour, Superintendent of Police.  Rathour informed that to control the criminal activities taking place in district like drug addiction, hooliganism, domestic violence and sexual violence, trafficking in human kidneys, illegal transfer of phone calls, and robbery. He also said the concept based on 3S--search, sweep and screening -- operation has been successful.

Thirty seven individuals were arrested on charge of threatening businessmen for money. Likewise, 24 absconders were also arrested during the operation. Most of those arrested have been charged with drug trafficking, gambling, trafficking in wildlife and robbery among others. Five individuals involved in trafficking in human kidneys and three individuals involved in illegal transfer of international phone calls have been arrested. 

Within three months police have destroyed more than 1800 liters of illegally produced alcohol and raw materials that can produce more than 11,000 liters of alcohol. Likewise, they have resolved 59 of the 78 complaints of domestic violence and investigation into 19 are underway, according to Rathour.
