One killed, one other missing as incessant rainfall damages over 200 houses in Arghakhanchi

ARGHAKHANCHI, Oct 13: More than 200 houses have been damaged in Arghakhanchi due to continuous rains in the last week.

According to the details provided by the District Administration Office Arghakhanchi, a total of 233 houses were completely and partially damaged in the district as a result of the heavy rainfall that also triggered landslides. 

Chief District Officer Ghimire, who is also Coordinator of the District Disaster Management Committee, said that 20 of these houses have been destroyed beyond repair.

He informed Republica there are still 111 families in Sandhikharka, Sitganga, Malarani, Chhatradeva and Panini living in schools and waiting rooms. Chief District Officer Ghimire said that the local level government will provide minimum food to the people who are living in public places at the risk of landslides and help find a suitable place to rehabilitate the displaced people.

Similarly, a child from Sandhikharka is still missing after being swept away by the river. The 10-year-old Samir Paudel, a resident of Kiteni, Sandhikharka Municipality, Ward No 7, Khikot, was swept away by the local Farjang river on October 5. He is still missing despite efforts to find his whereabouts.

Similarly, one person died after being swept away by the river in Chhatradev. The 65-year-old Dhan Bahadur Gharti of Chhatradev Rural Municipality Ward No 3 was killed when the local Bengdi river washed him away on October 11. Some livestock and chickens have also died due to landslides.
