CHITWAN, Dec 27: A person was killed on the spot and 26 others injured when a night bus veered off the road and plunged downhill towards the Kali river at Chandibhanyjang last night.
The ill-fated night bus (Na 4 Kha 5442) heading towards Malangawa from Kathmandu fell at least 100 meters below at 12:40 am, said Superintendent of Police (SP), Deepak Thapa, of District Police Office, Chitwan.
In the incident, Dharma Ra Mandal, 33, of Laxmipur Pataha of Siraha district was crushed to death between the seats inside the bus.
Among the injured 19 are undergoing treatment at the Chitwan Medical College, Bharatpur with five reported to be critical condition. The rest of the injured passengers returned home after minor treatment.
The bus landed in a notch on the face of the hill 20 meters above the river which saved it from further losses. The police started the rescue work at 1:15 am using ropes. The site of the incident is located three km towards Narayangadh from Muglin. RSS
