MUGU, May 1: One girl was killed at 6 am on Sunday as a tree fell down following long-lasting downpours and strong wind.  


The deceased has been identified as Sunita Rawat, 18, a local of Khatyang Rural Municipality of Mugu district.

She was hit by the broken branch of the tree while she was returning home carrying firewood collected in the nearby forest, Temporary Police Post told Republica Online.


The site of the incident known as Panche Chaur is 20 minutes walk from her house.


According to District Police Office, the rain accompanied by wind, which lasted for half an hour, also disrupted the power supply at the district headquarters for an hour.


The roofs of some houses were also blown away by the wind. However, detailed information about the magnitude of the damage caused by the wind is yet to be known.
