KATHMANDU, Jan 14: A person died and two others were injured as witch doctors burnt their body parts during a “traditional treatment” in Gulmi district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Ram Bahadur Mukhiya, 64, while the injured are his son Hum Bahadur, 34, and Topla Damai, 40, of Resunga Municipality-5.

According to police, Ram Prasad Shrestha, 38, and his wife Shantila Shrestha, 36, burnt Mukhiya with a hot iron rod to treat his “illness in a traditional way”.

Police have already arrested the couple on the charge of murder.

“Mukhiya visited the witch doctors as he was suffering from back pain,” a press statement issued by police reads.

The injured are receiving treatment at the Tamghas District Hospital, said police.

Further investigation into the case is underway, according to the police.
