SOLUKHUMBU, Oct 3: A man died after suffering acute altitude sickness during a trekking trip in the Mera Base Camp at Mahakulung rural municipality in Solukhumbu district on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Kawar Kumar Rai, 43, of Gudel in Mahakulung-4 in the district.

It is learnt that Rai had gone to a hiking trip to the Mera Base camp some five days ago. He then complained of a headache, fatigue and dizziness. Rai died at Thammak in the district, while he was rushed to his home for treatment, police said.

Altitude sickness could strike in lack of adequate acclimatization as it is a reaction to the lower amounts of oxygen available at high altitudes due to decreased atmospheric pressure.(RSS)
