One dead, three missing as Kamala River sweeps away whole family

SINDHULI, July 14: A child died and three others went missing as flood triggered by torrential rainfall swept away a six-member family at Dakaha of Dudhauli Municipality-1.

Renu Kapari who originally hails from Sarlahi used to live in a tent near the banks of the Kamala River along with her family. She lost her three-year-old son Karban to the floods, according to the District Police Office (DPO), Sindhuli. Chief of the DPO, Superintendent of Police (SP) Chakra Bahadur Singh informed Republica that the dead body of the child was recovered from Baira of Dudhauli Municipality-4.

Similarly, Renu's two other sons Sargam,7, and Adhi, 7, are still missing in the flood. Likewise, Marani Kapari, the 60-year-old aunt of Mithun Kapari of Sarlahi is also missing in the flood. After much effort, police were successful in rescuing Mithun and Renu. Jit Bahadur Sarki of Dudhauli-1 was sleeping when his cowshed was washed away by the flood. Sarki, who was sleeping in the shed, was successful in saving his life.

As the water level in the rivers is increasing every day, locals living nearby the banks of various rivers have been terrorized. Continuous rainfall for the past four days has increased the level of water in Sunkoshi, Kamala, and Marin, among other rivers and rivulets. Flash-floods followed by landslides have not only entered settlements but have also obstructed vehicular movement along various highways leaving the passengers stranded. Friday's floods and landslides killed nearly three dozen people across the country.
