KATHMANDU, Feb 2: Police have arrested an individual on the charge of carrying out transactions of crypto currency, from New Road, Kathmandu.

A team mobilized from the Metropolitan Police Office, Rani Pokhari, arrested Chandra Mani Adhikari for carrying out illegal transactions through mobile phones. According to the source, Adhikari, 30, was found trading crypto currency worth Rs 15 million.

Adhikari has been operating retail stores in the New Road area. Police said an investigation is underway to unveil the possible nexus of Adhikari in the illegal transaction.

Despite repeated caution notices issued by Nepal Rastra Bank and other government authorities, a large number of cases related to crypto currencies have been exposed in recent days in the country. Last week, the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) filed a case against a political activist of a student union, Dinesh Khadka, for misappropriating more than Rs 376 million by using the digital currency.

In a similar case, the Metropolitan Crime Division last week nabbed Rajan Bhattarai, Bishal Shrestha and Dipesh Raj Shrestha for carrying out transactions with 975 individuals. On December 16, the authorities at the Tribhuvan International Airport seized 30 electronic devices imported for the purpose of transaction of crypto currency.
