One arrested for spreading misinformation on social media

KATHMANDU, June 17: The Nepal Police Cyber Bureau has arrested a young man on charges of publishing misleading and inappropriate content on social media and YouTube.


The arrested individual has been identified as Resham Raj Paudel, 26, from Nisikhola Rural Municipality-4 of Baglung. Known as ‘Driver Resham,’ he was arrested by the bureau’s team in Nepalgunj.

According to a statement issued by the bureau on Tuesday, Paudel had been regularly publishing false, baseless, and misleading content targeting various individuals and organizations on YouTube and other digital platforms.


The police stated that he used prohibited abusive language to spread negative opinions and continuously published content against public morality and decency.


After technical analysis and investigation confirmed his involvement, the bureau, with the assistance of the Central Investigation Bureau team, arrested him from Rupaidiha, Nepalgunj.


A case has been filed against him under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063, and the bureau has said that the Kathmandu District Court has granted an additional seven-day period for further investigation.
