Olympian Phupu feted

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Nepal Judo Association (NJA) on Tuesday feted judoka Phupu Lhamu Khatri who represented Nepal in the Rio Olympics 2016 held in August.

Phupu, the wild card entry from Nepal, had competed for full four minutes in her first bout against Cuban opponent Maricet Espinosa in women's U-63 kg category.

Phupu was rewarded with Rs 25,000 for her very feat as per NJA's declaration before leaving for Brazil.

She also became the first Nepali judoka to compete for full time in a bout.

Menwhile, Phupu's coach Debu Thapa was also rewarded with Rs 10,000.

National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshav Kumar Bista rewarded them.

Meanwhile, NJA also rewarded the silver medalists of 10th Asian Cadet and 17th Asian Junior Judo Championship held in India in September last year.

Coincidentally, Phupu was one among them to secure second place finish in junior category.

Manita was the other player to achieve similar feat in women's cadet U-57 kg section.

Both of them were rewarded with Rs 10,000 each.
